Trading

The demo account, connecting an exchange, the order ticket, and exactly what is sent.

Demo and Live

The Trade Panel sends orders to one of two places. Demo is a simulated account kept by the terminal, one per instrument. Live is your own exchange account. You choose in Account Settings, the gear on the Trade Panel.

The demo account pays fees on every simulated fill and funding at each settlement while a position is open, at the exchange's own rate. The fees are set in Account Settings; they start at 2 basis points for a resting order and 5.5 for one that takes.

Connecting an exchange

  1. 01Open Connect Exchange and choose the exchange and the environment: Live, or Testnet where the exchange has one.
  2. 02Create an API key on the exchange with permission to trade, and paste the key and the secret.
  3. 03Run Test Connection. Start Trading Live stays disabled until the exchange has answered with your key.

Orders can be sent through Bybit, Binance and MEXC. The window shows the permissions the key really has.

The terminal never withdraws, so the key does not need permission to. If it has it, take it away.

The ticket

Each row of the grid is a kind of order, with a buy button and a sell button:

  • MKT: at market, now.
  • BID / ASK: a limit order resting at the best bid, or the best ask.
  • LMT: a limit order at the price in the Limit field.
  • STP: a stop. It becomes a market order when the level in the Stop field trades.
  • STP LMT: a stop that rests at the Limit price once its level trades. A move that jumps past the limit leaves it unfilled, which is what a plain stop is for avoiding.

Under the price fields: Reduce Only, Post Only (the order rests or is refused, and never takes) and the time in force. GTC rests until cancelled, IOC fills what it can at once and cancels the rest, FOK fills whole at once or not at all.

A button that cannot be used with what is ticked says why when you point at it, instead of sending something else.

With the bracket switched on, an order carries its stop-loss and its take-profit with it.

Orders on the chart

  • Drag the LMT button onto the chart to place a limit order at that price.
  • Drag an order's line to move it. Where the exchange can change an order as it stands, the order never leaves the book; elsewhere it is cancelled and replaced. The confirmation says which.
  • The button at the end of a line cancels the order or closes the position.
  • Right-click a position for Close Position, Reverse Position and Move Stop to Break-even.

What is sent, and what is not

  • A stop is held by the exchange, not by the terminal, so it survives the terminal closing. MEXC does not hold stops through the terminal, and the STP rows say so there.
  • A live order can ask for confirmation first; you can turn that off. Cancelling never asks.
  • What the exchange refuses comes back in the exchange's own words.

Post Only, IOC, FOK, stop-limit and moving an order in place have been verified against a simulated exchange, not yet against each real one. Try them on Testnet or at small size first.

If your licence runs out with a position open

You can still get out. Closing, cancelling, flattening and moving a stop stay open without a licence. Only opening, or changing an order that opens, is refused.
